Just last week we had a meeting of our Comprehensive School
Improvement Process (CSIP) team. That team includes three of our high school
students. The task of the evening was to envision what we want for WSR
teachers. The three students completely captivated us all as they spoke with
such wisdom and clarity about things we so often struggle to articulate.
As we
head out to day two of visits, I’d like to contextualize this trip in the plea
we got from our students at the end of the CSIP meeting. They said:
Please understand that education is a personal journey. It’s
an individual journey. We all have different goals and take different paths to
reach those goals.
Have a vision for us, and help us create an individualized
vision for ourselves. Allow us to guide ourselves more.
Be unconventional and contemporary. Don’t be bound by
traditional means. Think of new and different ways to approach tasks.
Trust us.
